Nanocom unlock codes: choosing and adding vehicle support

For maximum value, flexibility, and upgradeability, Nanocom Evolution hardware supports multiple vehicles and systems. Different features can be quickly enabled with unlock codes, so you pay only for what you need and can cost-effectively add coverage for additional vehicles and systems to your existing hardware. The only other requirement is a suitable lead to connect your Nanocom unit to the vehicle.

The licence belongs to your Nanocom, not to a vehicle VIN. Unlock codes are tied to the Nanocom ID and cannot be copied from one Nanocom to another. Coverage depends on the vehicle model, year, engine, fitted systems, a suitable lead, and available software. Reading a vehicle's VIN to identify it is separate from licensing the diagnostic tool.

What is already included?

A vehicle-specific Evolution kit includes its listed initial unlock licences and connection leads. You do not need to buy those same licences again.

For example, the TD5 Defender kit includes TD5 engine management and Defender systems, while the TD5 Discovery II kit includes TD5 engine management and Discovery II systems. If you already own a TD5 Defender kit and want to add support for a TD5 Discovery II, you need to add only the Discovery II systems unlock.

Check the kit contents or, for a registered unit, open View Unlock Codes in your [Dashboard](/client) to see the unlocks you currently have.

Choose the right support

Start on the Nanocom Evolution page and select the vehicle's exact model, year, and engine. Read the product information and confirm that it provides the functions you need. An engine-management unlock is not necessarily the same as the unlock for the vehicle's other systems.

Adding unlocks when buying a new Evolution

You can add additional unlock codes to a kit during the purchase process. This is more cost-effective than buying multiple separate Evolution kits.

The add-on selector provides two ways to choose:

• Additional Vehicle Support: choose the extra vehicle coverage you want. The selector calculates the missing unlocks and recommends suitable cables. This is the best starting point if you know the vehicle but not the individual licence products. Recommended cables are optional; untick them only if you already have a suitable lead.
• Individual Unlock Codes & Cables: choose specific licence products and cables yourself. This mode does not calculate a vehicle package or recommend cables, so check both the system coverage and the required connection lead.

Registering a Nanocom Evolution

To register your Evolution, log in to the website [Dashboard](/client), select Register Nanocom, and enter your Nanocom Unit ID. For a newly purchased unit, registration should complete automatically and immediately after you submit the Unit ID. If the unit was previously registered to someone else, or if registration encounters a problem, it may require further processing. Please contact us for help.

Adding unlocks to an existing Evolution

To add additional unlock codes to an existing Evolution, log in to the [Dashboard](/client) and open View Unlock Codes. Check what you already own, then select Purchase Additional Unlock Codes. You can then use either the guided Additional Vehicle Support option or the advanced Individual Unlock Codes & Cables option to select the correct unlock codes and leads for your additional vehicles. Once payment is confirmed, the unlock codes are made available immediately. Any additional cables will be sent by DHL and may be required before you can connect to the additional vehicles.

Upgrading Nanocom Lite to Evolution

A Nanocom Lite unit can be upgraded to Evolution functionality by purchasing a Nanocom Lite to Nanocom Evolution Upgrade Licence (NCOM01LT) together with the required vehicle-support licences or kit.

Retrieve the codes, then enter them on the device

Viewing codes online does not automatically enter them into the handheld. In the [Dashboard](/client), open the correct unit's View Unlock Codes panel. Each row shows a licence identifier, its code, and its description. Keep the codes private.

Use the licence identifier—not the product number—to choose the device field. For example, NCOM11 is the TD5 product reference, but its code belongs in Unlock01, not Unlock11. Enter the code supplied for your unit, not the text “NCOM11”.

The documented Evolution touchscreen procedure is as follows:

1. From the home screen, use the right arrow to reach the second page, then select NANOCOM → SETUP → UNLOCK CODES. You can check the handheld's ID under NANOCOM → SETUP → NANOCOM ID.
2. Find the numbered field matching the licence identifier shown in the [Dashboard](/client). Use the page arrows to reach later fields.
3. Touch the end of the text in that field. Delete the question marks or existing text before entering the supplied code; the device does not automatically overwrite them. Match uppercase and lowercase letters exactly, then confirm the entry with OK.
4. Repeat for the codes you need to enter. Do not erase other valid licence entries.
5. Use the page arrows to reach the final unlock-code page and select SAVE UNLOCK CODES. Wait for saving to finish.
6. Exit to the home screen, shut the Nanocom down normally, then restart it so the saved codes become active. Do not interrupt power while it is saving or communicating with a vehicle.

If you see “Function Locked”

Check these points before purchasing anything else:

• Are you using codes for this Nanocom ID, rather than another unit on the account?
• Does the licence actually cover the vehicle or system you selected?
• Is each code in the matching numbered field, with no leftover question marks, spaces, or incorrect letter case?
• Have you selected SAVE UNLOCK CODES and restarted the unit?

Understanding the individual unlock products

These catalogue names help distinguish engine-management licences, other-system licences, and vehicle-platform licences. This does not mean that every year, engine, or function within a model family is supported; use the website selector for your particular vehicle.

The individual cable options are NCOM21 Blue OBDII, NCOM23 Green OBDII, and NCOM24 CAN BUS / VCI 4. A cable provides the physical connection, not the software licence; an unlock code does not replace a required cable. Use the Nanocom Leads Summary alongside the selector rather than assuming that any OBD-shaped lead will be suitable.
